What PPF protects against
PPF is a thick, clear film applied over painted surfaces. It helps protect against:
- Rock chips from highway driving
- Light scratches and swirl marks
- Bug splatter and bird-dropping etching
- Sun fading on exposed panels
Coverage options
Most people protect the areas that take the most impact: the front bumper, hood, fenders and mirrors. Some cover the full front end or the entire vehicle. High-wear spots like door edges, door-handle cups and rocker panels are popular add-ons. We'll recommend coverage based on how and where you drive.
Popular PPF packages
PPF is priced by how much of the vehicle you cover. The most common options are:
- Partial front: bumper, partial hood and fenders, mirrors
- Full front: full bumper, full hood, full fenders and mirrors
- Track pack: full front plus rocker panels and the A-pillars
- Full body: every painted panel
PPF and ceramic coating together
PPF and ceramic coating do different jobs. PPF is physical impact protection, and ceramic coating is a slick, easy-clean layer. Many owners put PPF on the front end and ceramic-coat the whole vehicle, including over the film.

PPF FAQs
Can you see paint protection film?
Quality PPF is nearly invisible once installed. Edges are wrapped or carefully placed so they're hard to spot.
Should I get PPF or ceramic coating?
If your main concern is rock chips, choose PPF. If you want easier washing and gloss, choose a ceramic coating. Many people do both. See our ceramic coating page for details.
Is PPF worth it on a new car?
The best time to apply PPF is while the paint is new and chip-free. It protects that finish from day one.
